YouTube Banned or Restricted Countries

YouTube Proxy > YouTube Banned

Many countries seek to try and ban or restrict access to users, usually because of political or content sensitivity issues. YouTube have in the past restricted people from specific countries to certain music videos, such as in 2009, when YouTube blocked access to premium content music to UK users, after failing to secure a revenue sharing agreement with the Performing Rights Society, discussed in detail later.

Commercial agreements aside, the majority of countries blocking YouTube do so for political censorship and to prevent online discussion and disemmination of content that is critical of their regimes.

For me there are two iconic videos that are symbolic of the power of YouTube to political activism. The first is the heroic effort of a student in Tiananmen Square to stop a chinese tank by standing in front to it, which has been viewed over 1.6 m times; shown below:

The other iconic videos are of Iranian students, brutally shot after street protests in 2009. Due to the graphic nature of these videos, we aren't showing them here, rather giving this link.

Needless to say if you can't see any of the above videos, then it's very likely that YouTube is blocked in your country for some reason.

Below we give a list of countries where YouTube access is, or has been restricted, either due to government censorship or because YouTube itself has failed to agree advertising revenue with content publishers.
